The only response Ky could manage was a nod, his constricted lungs refusing to allow enough air through to speak. His face had turned an ashen shade of grey and his skin became clammy. However, it was unclear whether this was a result of the poison or his mild panic attack. Regardless, he was determined to put one foot in front of the other and keep going.

They managed another ten minutes before Ky’s condition began to deteriorate.

As it turned out, it seemed that the frog was similar enough in genetic DNA to a reptile that the poison didn’t kill him. It didn’t even make him sick, at least, not in the usual sense.

It appeared that for a wyvern, the frog’s poison was the equivalent of Sodium Pentothal on a human, a.k.a. truth serum. Ky began deliriously sharing every personal thought he’d ever had. Top of that list was his sexual exploits. Branwen hadn’t been his first, not that anyone was surprised by that, they were surprised however, that he’d managed to last fifty years abstaining from sex from the moment he first met his mate.

As it turned out, of course, his sex life wasn’t the only secret he was sharing. He also began sharing Alliance secrets about the artefacts they’d been instructed to find by the archangel Ariel, along with many interesting facts about the other supernaturals living on Earth, i.e. lycans and vampires. Plus, the sordid history of the nephilim and their renegade counterparts, the rephaim led by Morgana, and how their downfall was closely connected with Earth’s legend of the druid, Merlin.

Ky’s behaviour while entertaining and very informative, was also an unwanted problem. His unfiltered thoughts and secrets were now out in the open for anyone to hear, including their enemies. No matter how hard they tried to get him to keep his voice down, Ky became louder and louder, shouting his love for Branwen at the top of his lungs and singing sonnets noisily enough to frighten away the nearby birds and echo throughout the valley.

“Oh, you don’t know how I’ve suffered without sex for so long. The calluses on my hand have developed calluses,” he told one of the men, his gaze becoming fixated on the hand in question as it began to distort before his eyes, appearing to grow larger and then smaller in his vision, the sight causing him to giggle absurdly as he wiggled his fingers and playfully shook his hands, captivated by the illusion of his fingers multiplying and then diminishing, reminiscent of the mesmerizing transformations seen through a kaleidoscope. “Whoa, freaky,” he exclaimed, mesmerised.

“What are we going to do with him? If there are any gaulin or Guild scouts anywhere within the next ten miles, they’ll know we’re here for sure,” Anildo asked Davi anxiously.

“Leave this to me,” Davi replied with a devious smile. “Try to get him to sit down by that tree,” he ordered the other men.

They tried to get him to comply, but Ky was just too big
